Description

The first collection of the Sutta-piṭaka containing the 34 long discourses of the Buddha arranged in 3 books (vagga)

A number of the suttas expound important doctrines, e.g. the Mahānidānasutta (15) and Mahāsatipaṭṭhānasutta (22). In several, the Buddha discusses the views and doctrines of the brahmanic religion and various contemporary religious schools and philosophies, e.g. the Soṇadaṇḍasutta (4) and the Sāmaññaphalasutta (2).
