Journal of the Pali Text Society

The first issue of the Journal of the Pali Text Society was published in 1882, the year after the founding of the Society. Between 1882 and 1927 there were twenty-three issues in eight volumes. In 1981, commemorating the centenary of the founding of the Society, those eight volumes were reprinted in a facsimile edition as well as a new volume with a collection of fifteen new articles. In 1985 volume 10 was published. In his foreword K. R. Norman expressed the PTS Council’s ‘hope to continue publication if support and interest are sufficient’. Since then a further twenty-four volumes have appeared, issued somewhat irregularly between 1987 and 2021. All these are available to download free from the Society’s website.

With the publication of the latest volume (35) in a new format, the PTS Council expresses its aspiration to relaunch the Journal with a view to publishing a volume annually. The relaunched Journal of the Pali Text Society is open access: on publication of each issue, individual articles will be available on the PTS website under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC-BY).

In general the Journal follows the Modern Humanities Research Association Style Guide with some modification; please see the JPTS pages on the PTS website for further guidelines.
